Check Your Apple Warranty in 2 Minutes
Apple provides a free online tool to check the warranty status of any Apple device. All you need is your device's serial number. Here's how to do it step by step.
Step 1: Find Your Serial Number
Your serial number location depends on the device:
iPhone / iPad: - Go to Settings → General → About - Scroll down to find "Serial Number" - Tap and hold to copy it
Mac (MacBook, iMac, Mac Mini): - Click the Apple menu () → About This Mac - Your serial number is displayed in the overview
Apple Watch: - Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone - Go to My Watch → General → About
AirPods: - Open your AirPods case near your iPhone - Go to Settings → Bluetooth → tap the (i) next to your AirPods - Or check the underside of the charging case lid
Original packaging: - The serial number is printed on the barcode label on the original box
Step 2: Use Apple's Check Coverage Tool
- Open your browser and go to checkcoverage.apple.com
- Enter your device's serial number
- Complete the CAPTCHA verification
- Click Submit
The results page will show: - Valid Purchase Date — confirms Apple recognizes your device purchase - Telephone Technical Support — whether you have active phone support - Repairs and Service Coverage — whether hardware warranty is active - AppleCare+ — whether you have extended coverage (if applicable)
Step 3: Understanding the Results
Green checkmark (✓): Your coverage is active for that category.
Orange exclamation (!): Coverage has expired or is about to expire.
Red X: No coverage. Your warranty has expired or was never activated.
"Purchase Date not Validated": Apple doesn't have your purchase date on file. You may need to provide proof of purchase (receipt) to validate your warranty start date.
Alternative Ways to Check
If the online tool doesn't work, try these alternatives:
Apple Support App (iPhone/iPad): 1. Download the Apple Support app from the App Store 2. Sign in with your Apple ID 3. Your devices and their warranty status are listed automatically
Apple ID Website: 1. Go to appleid.apple.com and sign in 2. Go to Devices 3. Select your device to see warranty info
Contact Apple Support: - Call 1-800-275-2273 (US) or your local Apple number - Chat at support.apple.com - Visit an Apple Store Genius Bar
What to Do If Your Warranty Has Expired
If your Apple warranty has expired, you still have options:
- Check your legal rights — In the EU, you have a 2-year legal guarantee. In the UK, up to 6 years under the Consumer Rights Act.
- Credit card protection — Many credit cards extend the manufacturer warranty by 1 year
- Out-of-warranty repair — Apple offers paid repairs at fixed prices
- Third-party repair — Authorized Apple Service Providers and independent shops
- Trade-in — Apple Trade In gives you credit toward a new device
For future purchases, use a warranty tracker like WarrantyControl to get alerts before your coverage expires.
