Nike Shoe Warranty Overview
Nike offers a 2-year warranty on all footwear against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. This applies to all Nike shoe lines including Air Force 1, Air Max, Dunk, Jordan, Running shoes, and more.
The warranty period runs from the date of manufacture (not the purchase date), so check the manufacturing date inside your shoe tongue to determine your coverage window.
What Manufacturing Defects Are Covered
Nike's warranty covers defects that indicate a problem with how the shoe was made:
- - Sole separation — the outsole or midsole coming apart from the upper
- - Stitching failures — seams coming undone under normal wear
- - Material defects — fabric or leather tearing at stress points during normal use
- - Midsole issues — foam crumbling, collapsing, or breaking apart prematurely
- - Air unit failures — Air Max or VaporMax air bubbles deflating or leaking
- - Glue failures — components separating due to adhesive defects
- - Eyelet and lace loop defects — hardware breaking or pulling out
What Is NOT Covered
Nike's warranty does not cover wear from normal use or misuse:
- - Outsole wear — rubber wearing down from walking or running is expected
- - Comfort changes — cushioning softening over time is normal
- - Cosmetic issues — scuffs, color fading, creasing, or staining
- - Size and fit issues — use Nike's 60-day return policy instead
- - Damage from washing machines — hand clean only
- - Non-intended use — running shoes used for basketball, trail shoes on pavement, etc.
- - Customized shoes (Nike By You) — defects in custom elements may not be covered
Nike's 60-Day Return Policy (Separate from Warranty)
Don't confuse the warranty with Nike's return policy:
60-Day Return Policy: - Return any Nike product within 60 days of purchase - Can be worn or unworn - Full refund to original payment method - Applies to purchases from Nike.com and Nike stores - Nike Members get free return shipping
2-Year Warranty: - Only covers manufacturing defects - Runs from manufacture date - Results in a Nike gift card or replacement (not a cash refund) - Applies to all authorized retailers
If you're within 60 days of purchase and unhappy for any reason, use the return policy. If you're past 60 days but within 2 years and have a manufacturing defect, use the warranty.

Nike Shoe Warranty by Type
While the 2-year warranty applies to all Nike footwear, expected lifespan varies:
| Shoe Type | Typical Lifespan | Common Warranty Claims |
|---|---|---|
| Running Shoes | 300-500 miles | Midsole collapse, sole separation |
| Lifestyle/Sneakers | 1-3 years | Sole separation, stitching failure |
| Basketball Shoes | 6-12 months of play | Sole separation, air unit leaks |
| Training Shoes | 6-12 months | Outsole separation, stitching |
| Sandals/Slides | 1-2 years | Strap separation, sole cracking |
Remember: warranty claims are evaluated based on defects, not normal wear. Running shoes wearing down after 500 miles is expected use, not a defect.
